Christmas Carols

Put yourselves into this position:

#1 - You are asked to sing a few Christmas Carols at a meeting to liven up the crowd - get them into the spirit.

Which ones would you pick?

#2 - You are in the crowd. Which songs would you prefer to hear?

Any of you out there that are volunteered to sing know what I go through each year. I've done so many, but am not a good barometer of what needs to be sung or heard.

I like them all to a certain extent, but there are favorites.

Thanks in advance.

And, no King Triton, no Grandma Got Runned Over stuff.....

In church on Christmas eve, I MUST hear Silent Night. On the radio I like hearing stuff like Run Run Rudolph or Springsteen's version of Santa Claus is Comin' to town. As for being asked to sing....won't happen. As for being in the crowd when someone is asked to sing, that's my cue to scram....

Good ones, for sure, Kundalini - and two of my favs.

I would like to add that the only instruments will be a an acoustic, steel, and bass guitars - nothing else.

Can't seem to get anyone else to "volunteer".

I told 'em. "If you're scared, say you're scared."

All but us four said they were...

I gotta go with the "Little Drummer Boy" and "Silent Night" too, but I'd add "What Child is This"

And then there are the non-religious favs like "Jingle Bells", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and the like.

I just like Christmas Carols, so Big Orn if you wanna come by and sing, I'll listen!

If you just knew my schedule.....

But, thanks for the invite.

On the 9th of next month I have to perform at our next National Management meeting. The next day I have wedding rehearsal, then perform at that wedding the night after that. The next week we have our company Christmas party, which I am slated to sing no less than 6 songs.

The next week is our community caroling.

And no contract for Nashville in the deal.

I love to entertain...it's in my blood.

Our drummer was an old hippy, Vietnam Vet, and could really cut loose on those things. He retired last year and has yet to return my calls.

He could play a 12 string real good, too. He did a very beautiful solo once - one of John August's songs (Native American) - that made everyone gasp.

I still have a little while - maybe he'll call. If he does I will do that song...for sure. It's a keeper.

"White Christmas" has always been one of my favorites. Next would have to be "Little Drummer Boy".

I have that one already on the list. Always a big fav to the crowd...and me.

Would that be the Conway version, Carlene? I know my wife and my mother love that version. I'm not sure which one I like the best. It's sort of a toss-up with me.

There is a great country song which goes by the title : The Nativadt (sp)

It starts with:
In the fields...where the shepards rested by night...came a light.....

All the standards are good for a crown- The First Noel, Deck The Halls, etc. One of my favorites I rarely hear is Lo, How a Rose Ere Blooming, esp. in German. BTW- Silent Night was intended for guitar; it was written because the church organ died, I think. In our church, we sing it to acoustic guitar and candlelight- very moving.

Although I love Conway, I didn't know he had a version of the Little Drummer Boy. My favorite rendition is by Frank Sinatra, then Dean Martin and last, but certainly not least, is Hank, Jr.

The versatility of Hank Jr's style amazes me.

BTW - Silent Night is another fav. of mine, but that's kind of a given at holiday times.
