On the way to work today I fliped my heater on and my truck stalled. I restarted it and herd my belt growling, and smellet it burning.
I shut the heater off and all was good.I am assuming my A/C pump went south. My qeustion is Can I by pass the A/C , can I do any thing to un freeze it. Money is tight right now so I need to fix it on the cheep.
Could be that the a/c clutch has fried. I had one do that and the clutch was smokin' when I raised the hood. Does the clutch on the a/c engage and the pulley turn when you turn the a/c on?? The a/c compressor,I think, should only come on when you turn on the Defroster, but not with just heat.
I have never done a clutch, but I think it takes a puller to get it off and I don't know if you need to do bearings or anything also. I bought an a/c kit to get the spanner wrench and I think you can pull clutches with it too. I'll find the link and post it up to show you one.
Don't know if this link will make it thru. It may be too long. This is what it looks like. You may be able to borrow one from Autozone or one of the other parts stores.
Well I had the a/c compresser and clutch assebly changed. Yea Yea I didnt have time to do it and its been too cold (35 deg for Cal. is freazing for us) to work on it at night. Problem is gone and now I have heat!!! Thanks
