I don't know about all you other guys, but sometimes it feels like I bought myself a miniature tug boat!! I was helping my dad all this past week with harvesting corn. The corn has been yielding well and he wasn't able to keep up with our grain truck(600 bushel) and big wagon(600bu), so we pulled out our little wagons(330bu) to use. And instead of using the tractor, and always having to unhook and hook up wagons, we pulled the two smaller wagons (each seperate) with my truck. And boy did it do a nice job of pulling! I've got a DMI cushion hitch, which takes a LOT of the shock out from pulling a wagon. Going across the scale I was weighing in at just over 29,000#. Last time I weighed my truck it was around 7500#, so that puts the wagon and corn at a rough 21,500#. The old truck pulled it no problem, and braking was a breeze. The old man is still having a hard time getting over how well that truck stops with a load, the benefits of 4 wheel disc brakes.
The only problem I had is I got my tranny pretty hot, but that was operator error. I was just running in Drive and with a few big hills we have to climb I worked it up over 200*. I'm guessing the T/C was spinning pretty hard. When the old man ran it, he was locked in 2nd, and said he had no problems with tranny temp, so I tried it and it kept it around 180*, big difference! It's tough to keep the tranny cool when you're running a max speed of 30mph and pulling a heavy load, but makes a big difference if you're in the right gear!
Got the truck serviced tonight, got oil and filter changed, air filter cleaned, checked all the fluids and CCV mod done.
Man I love these trucks!!!
