farmbOy I agree with you as I have done the same. But it would be a diservice not to inform someone of the risks. As far as I know the emission laws are federal so they should not change much except for the state of CA.
Yes, you are correct by doing that. It is highly illegal to remove the cat, and a pretty hefty fine if you get caught!
in connecticut there gonna start testing diesels which blows so i am still undecided if i am going to ditch the cat and muffler once i get my stacks what imight do is leave a pipe big enough so that i could swap it out and throw the cat back on but i gotta see when the time comes
I gutted the cat on my truck simply by removing it and taking a large hammer and steel rod and breaking the catalyst out of the inside. It allows it to look stock and if you have to undergo any type of tests in the future at least it will be there even if it doesn't perform to specs. The pipe is a good alternative, just have one fabbed to the same length as the cat with the same connections.
it made a differnce loosing the muffler on my wifes f350
in ca they dont check for mufflers of cats which amaxes me but im not complaining
the problem with busting the catalist out of the soot trap is if they tap on it they can tell its empty. what you gotta do is find a piece of pipe that fits in the opening snugly and sharpen the end and pound it through and weld it in place and beat the catalist out of the pipe and there you go and it still sounds like a working soot trap.....
