I am working on a 1990 Ranger that was given to me -- a "free" truck that has turned out to be expensive and a lot of work.
Anyway, I have just about gotten everything reassembled - primarily transmission related. My problem is not being able to get the slave cylinder quick disconnect reassembled. I didn't take it apart - came that way. But no matter what I try, I can not get it to "click" back it as the manual claims.
From what I have been reading, I should be able to depress the nylon ring inside the female fitting and get some flow of fluid. I can not get this ring to move when trying to depress it with a screw driver (have been careful not to mess it up). On the male side, the center "valve" move easily and I get fluid. Haven't loosened the bleeder valve at all. All the parts are in tact and seem to be in good shape.
Do I have a bad connector or is there something else I am missing?
The male end may be locking the fingers in place in the female end. Try holding in on the male end while pushing the white nylon piece in with a screwdriver. That white nylon piece has to be completely inside the female before the male will release. It is tough to do sometimes but it will release if you get it in all the way. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the reply. My trouble is not in getting it apart. I can't get it to go back together - to reconnect. I have tried all kinds of angles, working with both hands (best you can do while on your back!), lining it up just right, etc... all with no success. I have pushed as hard as I can -- is it a connection that it under real pressure and requires some real force?
Is the "special tool" of any use in getti8ng this fitting apart. You mentioned a screw driver. I have been afraid to use one for fear of damaging the fitting. I am having difficulty getting my connection apart. Any additional comments?

Open to any other ideas.
Hey, hand-me-down, I guess I misunderstood your question. If you can't get the male to lock into the female take a flashlite and look in the female at the lock fingers. If they are all spread back against the wall of the fitting take a small pocket or jewelers screwdriver and bend them out twords the center of the fitting be careful not to break them off. Once you have them away from the wall the male should lock in. Hope that helps. Carl
hey dont know if you ever got the tube to go back into the tranny, but, i had to replace my slave cyl. about a month ago and we COULD NOT get the thing to snap back in there, turns out the o-ring that came with the kit was tooo big and thats what it was, i put the old o-ring back in and it poped right together with easy,
if you've already got yours together maybe this will help somebody in the future
Thanks for the reply. I have not been able to work on this problem for the past week or so -- it still sits unconnected.
There is nothing new on this assembly -- old o-ring in the original slave cylinder. Mine sure doesn't just "pop in" -- I have pushed as hard as I can with no success. From what you are saying, it shouldn't be that hard. I may end up dragging this thing to a mechanic and see what they can do.
