Summit lists a BBK for an '95-'98 4.0, you may be able to modify the installation kit for your year. In this summer 2001 catalog it's part # BBK-1590 and BBK-1593.
It's a Eaton roots-type blower that advertises 40-50% more hp and torque. It's the same unit that comes on the Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Bonneville SSEI.

Yes, Ford makes/markets a supercharger for the Ranger.
Go to your local Ford Dealer and request a copy of their performance parts catalog. I have seen in this catalog that there is a supercharger that Ford markets. HP gains, and other specs. regarding it, including price, are mentioned. I do not recall the price, but HP gains are pretty good, from what I recall. The catalog's index and its table of contents list the upgrades available for the Ranger Truck.
It's an amazing catalog... they have EVERYTHING! Heck, you can even buy a crate motor that appears to be NASCAR-esque!
Whipple charger makes a kit for the 3.0V6 and is working on a kit for the 4.0 SOHC engine that has been used since 2001. I did find a kit for the 4.0 SOHC on ebay but it was a custom fabricated kit using a rebuilt Eaton roots style blower. They only had about 5 or so available but they went quick. Here is the link to the auction...it is over now but you can still see it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT
