I have a 2003 E350 12 passenger van with a 5.4 with 24000 miles. Between 45 and 65 mph I get a vibration accompanied by a low hum or rumble. You can feel it in the seat and on the floor through your feet. It's loudest at 55mph, loud enough that you have to turn up the radio. It does it whether I am accelerating or not, in OD or not, towing my 26 foot camper or not, and in gear or not (coasting in neutral). The rubber is good and the wheels are balanced. None of the rims are bent. The dealer has replaced the drive shaft twice, checked the engine mounts, trans mounts, and replaced the ring and pinion. I think they made it worse the last time they had it or I'm starting to lose my sanity. A mechanic friend of mine says it's the nature of the beast and that most vans do it at one speed or another. I don't think Ford would be throwing parts at it if this were true. HELP!

I have the same problem with My 2002 E350 15 passenger same speed same vibation floor and seat same drone noise. Replaced the driveshaft u-joints 3 sets of tires still there. No one can figure it out, pain in the u-Know-what. I have 270000 Kms on mine.Sorry I dont have the answer, could it be something in the dif you think.
The ring and pinion were replaced last week. Don't know what else they could do in there. Maybe transmission? Perhaps have the drive shaft professionally balanced, not dealer drive shaft replacement for the third time. I'm clueless.
Hi Bubtoofat. This is my 3rd E350 I drive over 200000 kms a year and never had this with the others. there is a driveline specialist not far from where I live, but even when I had my second one replaced, it was still there, so between the 2 of us thats 5 driveshafts I think its got to be something else.As far as Ford was concerned they just said it was the tires And the tire guy say's that its something in the driveline.
Maybe or hopefully someone mite read this....
The tires are the stock Michelin LT truck tires 245s. I have about 40 psi in them right now but when I tow my camper I put 70 psi in the rears and 60 psi in the fronts. Tire pressure makes no difference in the vibration. I did notice today that the noise and vibration are worse when there is a load on the engine. When I let off the accelerator the noise and vibration are still there but not as bad. This started since the ring and pinion were changed last week and I only noticed it today since I don't drive it much (gas hog). Also, instead of doing it between 45 mph and 65 mph it now starts at 41 mph and stops at 70 mph. I've gone from bad to worse. I made yet another appointment with the dealer and will mention the wheel bearings and axle bearings. At least they haven't told me "it's normal" yet.
The dealer called me today and said that an engineer from Ford came out and they are going to replace the entire rear axle assembly. 5 days for the parts to get here. Keeping my fingers crossed.
unsure if design has changed but on my 92 E350 (7.5L) the transmission tailshaft bushing (where the yoke slides in) is worn and causes vibration, worse under load.
Keep us informed on what happens. I just bougth a 2004 E-350 12 passenger. Have not got it yet but hope that is not the case with it. I got it because Our churchs 15 pass rides like a cloud with over 200.000 thousand on it. Late eights with 460 CI. I have owned a 72 E-300 86 E-150 95 E-150 and now on the way to a 2004 12 pass
5.4 with EOD and 3.73. I hope I have better luck than you with the vibrations. It did seem the 86 was smoother and had more power than the 95 althou. They were both E 150`s 302 OD.
Reading your post I was thinking bearings also but should not be from wear at that milage. The only trouble I have had like that was a driveshaft. All it was is it needed turning over 180 degrees at the yoke and the vibs went away. It would be worth a try any way. Maybe they were bolted togather on a monday. You would not think so on a new van but who knows.
Wink
heh i got same problem replaced everything so far except rear drums but when i was doing bearings on rearend they look perfect i got brand new shaft etc mine actually dissapears when i load ton or two in it
That is sounding more and more like a drive shaft to yoke problem. As when you load it heavy you are pushing the springs down and the drive shaft is more inline with the out put shaft. Come to think of it if all these are 350`s that would seem to be in the area as they sit higher than the 150s witch makes the drive shaft more out of line
with the out put shaft.
Wink
heh sitting higher
mine sits 4" higher becouse of 4x4 drive i installed but this did not changed anything it still vibrates the same as before http://exposystems.us i had to have custom drive shaft maked and i know it was done right besides it vibrates excatly the same btw 65 and 75 ubolts are brand new trans ic completly rebuild with brand new transfer case married to it
what i was thinking about is the engine offset when i lay underneath the truck looks like the whole engine and transmission is not in line with frame i dont know what is what you guys see under your vans?
