hehe i gaved up too i will replace rear drums in few days and post reply i own 2 newer vans and none of them has problems except one of them does need constant front suspension maintance that is 2000 e150
Come to think of it I did have a 1964 ford that had a brake drum out of balance that I started backing off the brake shoes and just put weights on the top till the tire would stay still any where you stopped it.Like static balancing they call it. I call it poor boys balance but it works. Not as well now with the roller bearings and grease they use now.
heh i seen soldiers in europe ballancing tires while mounted on hubs with simple piece of white choke they speen ti and mark topo point ndd weight in oposite end and did this again till they got it right tires were at least 44 from what i seen
Have the tires been "trued"? Although they may be brand new, they can still be out of round. You can still get a vibration from them, even though they have been balanced. Most of the time, only large off road style tires need to be trued, but I have seen instances where "normal" sized tires need it as well. Ask your tire shop about "trueing".
Also I'd be checking the shocks. I've had shocks go bad on me, and still looked brand new.
Yes they have been checked. The two front were bent so I bought two used ones that were also checked at the tire shop before they were mounted. One was bad so I had to get a third. That one was good.
New rear axle assy. is in and it still vibrates. It's not near as bad as it was but it's still there. Looks real nice and shiny under there though. Guess I'll drag it back to the dealer.
I feel your pain. I've been living with the same vibration for years. (99E150)
I could swear it started after replacing the worn OEM Michelins for crappy Pierellis. Now i'm on Les Scwab and still got the shakes. I'm tempted to get the driveline balanced. i should have bought the chevy. yeah, i said it. i still love ford, but this is BS with this shaking.
You could have a bad ball joint in your drag (center) link at any of the three locations. The joint may look fine but is just loose enough to cause a vibration at various speeds. Have the front end checked for proper alinement. Good luck on stopping that bad vibs.
Well I just got back from a trip with a 2004 E-350 5.4 with 3.73 rear. What ever it is Ford has not fixed it.
It is not bad enought that I am going to do any thing about it but it starts aroud 45 and stops around 55. It is comeing from the engine. If you put it in regular drive at that speed it gos away. It feels to me like it is transmitted thru the exhaust and engine
mounts. Also it only seems to do it under load.
Also have all you guys on here that have this vibration have the 5.4 ? I am thinking that as the max tork RPM is 2500 it may be a place that the engine is setting up a harmonic that is being transmitted thru the mounts. Any way this van rocks at 75 to 80 so it is not a big deal with me.
Wink
Beachman2000,
I too have noticed a vibration at certain RPMs coming from the engine. It sounds and feels the same as the drive line vibration. But, I can be on the freeway at 80 MPH and drop it in neutral and coast and the vibration will still happen a 55 MPH. It's an enigma, dammit! Gremlins! OOPS, that's another car company. I'm not losing any sleep over this crap but I need to have something done before I tow my 6000# camper to Montana this summer. It's bad enough I'll be dragging that camper through the Rockies but to add vibration into the mix seems like a set up for disaster.
