running rough and missing

96 3.0L 5speed
84k

she is starting to run rough and hesitates/ misses when trying to accelerate in 4th around 1600rpm.
I am thinking new plugs (OEM or autolight DP) and wires Bosch or MSD
would help correct this problem.
any other suggestions?

Suggestions:
OEM plugs, motorcraft wires, air and fuel filter, PCV, cap and rotor if equipped, basically do a thorough tune-up! Look at your vacuum hoses for any cracks.

Clean your throttle body and MAF if you understand how to do it, otherwise leave them alone. good luck.

the thing is i just replaced plugs at 60k but number 2 shorted
out when a heater hose valve thingy busted and was leaking on it
as far as plugs & wires im pretty shure im going with autolight dps
msd cables. I just cleaned my K&N air filter last oil change.
how do u clean the throttle body?
just use some break cleaner and a scrub brush?

Save the brake cleaner for your brakes and the scrub brush for your back.

Cleaning the throttle body is a debateable topic. I respect those who choose not to clean them, but i clean mine without regret.

I use a clean soft rag and throttle body cleaner which you can purchase at murray's or autozone. It's basically the same as gumout carb cleaner in my opinion.

Remove the black plastic air duct from the throttle body by loosening the clamp. Spray a SMALL amount of cleaner on your rag or into the TB itself and wipe it clean. You will see black carbon deposits on your rag. Do not drench the TB interior with the liquid cleaner. Clean until you get no more carbon on your rag. I also open the butterfly plate and clean as far as i can reach.

Methods may vary on this subject, but this is what works for me. Good luck. I see you live near me.

I cleaned my throttle body last week and it made my truck run much better...esp. on starts and idle. I'm with hood. Make sure you use throttle body cleaner and a rag. The Throttle body cleaner is suposidly formulated so that it will not damage the coatings on the TB.
