Engine swap

1997 F-150 two wheel drive. Does anyone know if you can swap out a 4.2L engine for any other motor. 190,000 miles is about all I can get out of it.

Hi Don and welcome to the forum

There are no other engines that will swap in easily.
You could use a 4.6 or 5.4 out of a similar truck but everything is different.......transmission, engine mounts, alternator, P/S pump, alternator, exhaust, wiring, PCM etc.
If you had a donor truck it wouldn't be too bad but otherwise it will be a ton of work.

Perhaps a later 4.2 would be the ticket. No shame in getting 190k out of a gas motor.

Wow, 190k. I wonder how common that is on the 4.2s?
