Custom Sub Box

Does anyone have dimentions (or blueprints) that they made up to make a Sub box that fit underneath the back seat of an extened cab (for 8s 10s or 12s) f-150?

I have a box that fits 2 10's under the rear seat of the supercab. It's horrible quality, built by a local shop by the name of Al & Ed's. Let me know if you want it, but I must say it is crap.

I know HorizonHuskies made his own enclosure for 2 10's, i believe.

To tell you the truth, 85, you have to kind of do it yourself, for a number of reasons. First off, the dimensions should be easy to get, just get a tape measurer!
Second, you need to properly sit the subwoofer in it's recommended airspace, and take into account its excursion and mounting depth. A sub with a high excursion typically can't be too close to either the ground or the seat, depending if you are firing down or up. Anyhow, check the specs of your sub, measure your dimensions, and get at it!!!

remember, measure 3 times, cut once!

Rman

***edit:
2 10's should be fine. 2 8's may not be deep enough, and if you can fit 12's, then rock on and go for it. Also depends on what you want from your bass and your musical taste.

I have a plastic box from MTX with two 8's and amp built in. Sounds pretty good. Dont' know the dimensions. You will have to find another place for your jack.

You will have to find another place for your jack.
Of course replacing the jack will require you to buy 5 cans of oil to re-oil the jack when it's removed...then you'd have to drill holes into your seats to compensate for air-flow to the back seat due to the jack being removed...THEN, you'd have to buy a new tail gate to put the spare under it because obviously the jack will have to go to the new spare position. Pretty simple to do though!

...or you could just take the jack out and put it somewhere else...but who would do that right?! GEEESE!

Or you could just like i did and take out most of the back seat and only keep the "captain's" chair behind the driver. I had a custom sub box made to fit 2-12in subs and now i use where the seats were bolted to the floor to bolt the sub box down. God knows that you don't want some low life coming for your things.

I agree with cufan, as i'm a die hard stereo enthusiast.

As i mentioned before, the most important thing for good SQ is to sit the subs in the manufacurer's recommended airspace. For example, A kicker solo-baric requires very little airspace, whereas a JL sub requires a ton more, especially the w7's. The mouting depth varies quite a bit as well, the kicker mounts at about 6.5in deep for the 10's, and the JL i have no idea, but i'd say a good 12 inches or so.

Also, check out JL's stealthboxes, at your local stereo shop. They are custom made for different applications, and they make one to fit 2 10's under the seat.

The only problem of having those subs under your seat, is more than likely you will be using that sub box as a support for your seat. That is the problem that I ran up against and didn't want to take the chance of someone getting hurt b/c the box is made of wood and wouldn't stand a chance in a big accident.

As state by Rman, the only way to have these thing sound good is the proper air space. I have 2-12in infiniti subs and to get the proper air space I would of had to take all of the working out from under the seat. Plus really now how many people use their back seat. You can find a nice corn field on a pleasant day and use your bed of your truck for "extracurricular activities."

The front seat is big enough for that! unless you are some bohemoth of a....beast...i...guess.....

Also, the box that I have that sits under the seat slips right under the seat, the mounting hardware and bracketry are unchanged. So the box does not support the seat. I have seen them built like that, and considered building one for my cousin awhile back, just to get more airspace.

Look around the web also for a seat riser kit, I've seen them on eBay awhile back. This will allow you to put a bigger box under the seat, or store a bigger dead body if you bed is full.

No i just figured the truck bed for more room to play. And you do have a good point about the seat riser. That would work to get you your proper air space.

Yeah, my box does not support my seat either. My speakers face down. Is that good? I heard it's the best way, and it sounds good to me, but what do yall think?

With my box, I have them pointed down and have a lid put on the box. This is so the carpet won't absorb all of the sound. I have slits cut into the box between where the subs stop and where the lid is at. This lid helps the noise by bouncing off of it, not the carpet. It doesn't matter if they are pointed down or up, in my opinion.
