What size tires can i fit on a 1978 F-150 with a 4 inch lift? I currenty have 33 x 12.50 which the tires are 33.7 inches tall but i was looking through some of the pictures and one guy has 38's on a 78 f-150 with 4 inch lift? what is the biggest tire i can put on 78 f-150 with 4 inch lift without having to do any fender modification. I thought 33 would be max on it. could i get by with 35's?
I had 35's on a 79' with only a lttle rub once in a while when offroad. The truck you saw w/38's probably had a body lift also,I don't see any way to get them on with just 4'' lift.
i dont see it either unless the guys not turning or making the suspension work much. i dont know how true the cepeks are to their actual sizes. they may say 38 but might actually only be 37s. im told you can fit 36s on a high boy with no rubbing issues which is 4 inches higher than a low ford truck. so, the 4 inch lift would put you even with a high boy, he probably has minimal rubbing issues.
My 1st 79 F-150 I built was done with a 4"? (could of been a 6") lift and I ran 36" cepek fun country's on it. It was very close on the clearance issues. I cannot see any possible way he can fit those 38's on there with only a 4" lift. Like SRD said it must include a body lift. I would think a 4" lift would get you by safely with 35's. A cepek 36 is about 35.8" tall but they are also 16" wide.
There is a pic of mine in my gallery, it is the black one that was rolled.
I was screwing around one day, and put 40s on my truck. I have a rancho 3" lift. Here is what it looks like. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=36353&width=2
What it doesn't show is that it WOULD rub turned on the street. I would say that a narrow 38, like a 12.50 on an 8" rim would probably be just fine with a 4" lift.
before my last lift i had a 4" superlift on my 79 f-150. i ran 35 x 12.50 b.f. goodrich tires on 15 x 10 weld wheels without any rub at all. but it was close.
A good friend of mine has a '79 F-150 4x4 shortbed w/ a rancho 3 1/2" suspension lift. He runs 35" BFG MT on it with no rub. They do fill up the wheel wells most of the way however. If you want to run 38's, a 6" lift might work. I would suggest, based on what I read here, to upgrade your axles for anything larger than 35's.
