engine paint color

What was the original engine paint color on an '83 F350 XLT 460 engine?

I'll throw out a guess.... Dark Ford Blue. Black and Gray didn't start to hit the market until later in the 80's or 90's.

Blue is what I thought too but, mine is gray. My neighbor has an 83 E350 with a 460 and it's dark blue. My truck only has 70+k mi. (verified) so I thought the engine was original--maybe its a rebuilt or replacement. Is there any easy way to tell?

Both my 84 F250 XLT's one has the orignal engine my 4wd 180k or so has a gray engine and my 128k 2wd XLT has a rebuilt engine is also gray so im not sure if the the 83's had a gray engine but id asume they did but i think it gose both ways on gray or blue

my 80 &81 had blue my neighbors 83 has grey so mabe it was 82 or 83 they change it if its blue thats the old color and a'll know ford and how they used up all the old stuff till gone before they started with the new
