Stutters and stalls

Hey guys I've had this problem for a while but have learned to live with it...But figure someone here might know how to fix it...I got an 89 f150 300 six 5sp....When in heavy traffic(Stop and Go) or Driving around slow(Like on a trail in the woods.)The motor seems to be loading up...It will start to idle funny dropping off to low...When it does, I gas it up hard a few times it seems to clear out for a few minutes...If it does stall it has to sit for 5 minutes or so before it will restart...It only does this under little or no load...I use the truck daily and on the highway or pulling a load of stone it is fine...Guess I just don't beat her enough...

P.S. I'm no mechanic..Just a glorified parts changer...

I would first try pulling codes to see if there's a problem.
