How do i know what tranny i have? it a 1988 f150 auto. if it helps out any it has a pan shaped like a square with a little bit of a toe in at the front.
C6- 3 speeds, no O/D, 17 pan bolts, square pan with a notch out of pass. rear corner, P-R-N-D-2-1 shift pattern.
AOD- 4 speeds, O/D (non-electronic), 14 pan bolts, pan fairly square but tapered on one end, P-R-N-OD-D-2-1 pattern, 'AOD' may be stamped in the bottom of the pan.
AOD/E- 4 speeds, O/D (electronic), 14 pan bolts, pan same as AOD, P-R-N-OD-2-1 pattern with an overdrive lockout button. Successor to AOD.
E4OD- 4 speeds, O/D (electronic), 20 pan bolts, strange shaped pan, P-R-N-OD-2-1 pattern with an overdrive lockout button either on the end of the shift lever (later years) or on the dash (early years).
C4- 3 speeds, no O/D, 11 pan bolts, square pan, P-R-N-D-2-1 pattern. I don't think C4's were used in 88 F150's though.
Door sticker trans code 'E' is E4OD, 'G' is C6.
