91 Explorer 4WD Electric Shift wont work
I just purchased a 91 Eddie Bauer Explorer from a friend who had it for many years. After purchase I tried to engage the 4WD with the button on the dash and it seems to do nothing. My friend said it worked last time he tried it but that was over a year ago. I checked fuses and they were fine...so I came straight to this site for help. I found what appears to be the reset button in the rear by the washer fluid tank and now the red light on that box comes on with the ignition. Still no 4WD... I tried to link to the glue.umd.edu site that is referanced in earlier forums but it says that I am denied access. Can someone please tell me what my next step is to solve this problem with my Electric Shift???

Sounds like the typical dirty shift motor issue that's so common on these. The shift motor gets dirty and can't move the shift fork.
This assumes that the t-case isn't engaging. About 1/2 of the "no 4WD issues" are bad auto hubs, so you might take a couple of minutes and verify the t-case isn't engaging.
