what would be the most beneficial chip to get for a 2003 ford ranger, 3.0 liter v6 5 speed transmission? i know there is jet chips, hypertech, superchips, etc. which will give me more hp and torque, and better gas mileage at the same time? should i get the one that you just plug in or the one that you program yourself? how much would this cost and where can i get it? will it hurt the engine in the future? sorry about all the stupid ?'s but i use this truck for commuting up and down mountains everyday, so i need more power and torque, and definitely more mpg. thanks a lot!
Steer clear of Jet and Hypertech - they accomplish their tuning at wide open throttle. Superchips dropped support for Rangers and Explorers over a year ago. There are two very good choices: Diablo Sport and Superchips Custom Tuning (not the same company as Superchips). Both available here: www.motorhaven.com
No, they do not hurt the engine but it will require premium fuel to get the bigger power increases. Diablo and SCT both have chips, with SCT Motorhaven.com can also program a Microtuner for it.

then fill in the form... or snoop around the Motorhaven site and you'll find a phone number to call and talk with someone. Tell 'em Fordlover55 sent ya!
I submitted a suggestion for another source for the chip last night, but I guess since it is a competing source with motorhaven it seems my post was deleted. If this was intentional censorship of competition on this forum I guess I will have to quit coming to this forum and go to other forums that welcome free speech.
