Catalytic Converters

I drive a 1986 4WD 2.9L fuel injected Bronco 2....It has 2 catalytic converters in a row and i am planning on takin them out and having a straight pipe...however ive heard that this could lead to problems regarding backfiring and and misfiring etc.....any info regarding this would be greatly appreciated

i took my convertors off for a while, it didnt cause any backfires or missfires, however i did seem to loose some low end power belive it or not. it may help boost hp on a beefed up v-8 or a turbo car, but on the 2.9 it didnt. i have since replaced mine with new ones. what about emissions? it wont pass the visual inspection with a straight pipe.

I gutted out my cats, and I lost some of the low-end power, but I also gained some of the higher-RPM power. I haven't had any backfires or missfires at all though.

Don't gut them, it causes more back pressure unless you put pipes in them. Overall, you will see no gains if you have good cats.
