ive been having problems with my oil pressure gauge and i wasnt sure if it was giving me an accurate reading or not so i bought an aftermarket gauge that came with a new sending unit. when i was going to hook it up i found the old sending unit almost impossible to get to. i thought i might have to pull the power steering pump forward but i got frustrated with it when i couldnt get the bolts loose so i figured id try it another day. is there an easier way to change the sending unit or is the way i tried the best way? my truck is a 92 f150 4x4 with a 351w. im hoping to have my gauge hooked up this weekend. thanks for the help.

try taking the oil filter off, that would give me acces to it on my 87 f-50 w/ 351w, but the easiest way is to take the power steering pump off. easier said then done, but spray those bolts with some pb blaster and try them in the morning, odds are they will come right out.
Don't know about using an impact. I agree with ATC_250SX about the PB Blaster. Don't know if you could get a socket and pull bar on it or not. I changed mine on my '90 with the oil filter off and it wasn't a problem.
I think it was a 1 1/16 (check this on new one before wasting time) deep socket that fit over the sending unit and a couple of extensions and you can pull it out without removing anything. No excessive torque needed. Pull the wire and clamp it to ground. With the key in run position see what your gauge is reading thats your "good" oil pressure reading. Cleaning the wire connection may fix erratic readings.
I changed mine a couple of months ago because the gauge was erratic, and the unit was bleeding oil like a stuck pig. Major, major pain in the butt to get at and get out. That was with the oil filter off. At least it cured both of my problems.
Does anyone have a diagram or picture of where this is located? My truck seems to have good pressure (no ticking valves and full of oil) but the gauge reads low to almost none. I think its the sending unit but don't know where it is and don't have a manual. Thanks.
It's located right by the oil filter. If I remember right mine was on the left side of the filter at about 10 o'clock. Look for the wire connected to the oil sending unit. You may have to use some degreaser to clean it off. Mine was pretty nasty.
