i am trying to change the ignition switch(not the key switch)and it appears to be bradded into place...any info on replacing this...any help appreciated...thanks
Jamlam, take another look at it. It should be held in place with 2 "tamper-proof" allen screws. You can either drill out the screw centers, or buy a set of tamper-proof allen wrenches. All auto parts stores sell them.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Feb-02 AT 04:46 PM (EST)]thanks for the suggestion, but these are not tamper resistant allen.it looks like a rivet or a bradded head.there is no hole at all
These are not tamper proof. These are what they call break-off bolts. The head of the bolt was on top of what looks like a rivet. The bolt was tightened until the head broke off. This is to make it harder to steal. I have done an ignition switch on my 86. Drill a hole in the center of the bolt and take an easy out and remove the bolts. When I put my switch back in I used two valve cover bolts out of a 2.3 mustang engine. If you want you can try and take a small chisel and drive it into the side of the head. Once you have a good dent take the chisel and try and turn the bolt by using the dent to hold the chisel as you hit it in a counter clockwise direction.
