I've been wanting to ask for a while, just didn't get a chance to. The company I work for leases two small airplanes, and both have twin turbo-prop engines. Of course, they both have dual scale EGT gauges on the dashboard. If you could find one with the right range, couldn't you use this to measure pre and post-turbo egt's with one gauge? I just checked eBay and it looks like they come in 2" round styles. I'm trying to post a link, but it's the first time I've done that... so hope it works. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW
Yea I'm with quad - the pre-turbo #'s are what you want to be watching. Short of grins and giggles - I wouldn't think it would be worth the work to have post turbo temps along with the pre-turbo. I don't know jack about planes - but for a diesel you really only need pre-turbo temps.
I guess I will have to be the different one in here. ( but that's what they tell me everywhere)
I think it would be pretty cool and since I already have a place to mount mine post turbo it wouldn't be to much work for me. and I am a sucker for gauges, the more the merrier. would be intersting to see how the temps react. and you would be able to have an instant comparison of the two.
but I will also agree that the post turbo temps would be useless, the guage would just be for kicks and giggles.
I personally have seen two trucks with pre and post turbo, pyrometers. Both guys said that the first one is for the safety of the turbo and motor (DUH) and that the second one helps them caculate the combustion effiency of their motor and at certain temps, usually 600 degrees preturbo and 350degrees post turbo they get the best fuel economy. I quit asking questions at that point, they had some formula that showed the exact numbers. I just heard the 600 pre turbo and try to stick with that. So far it works pretty well.
The gauge I want to see, is one that would tell me the hp output of the truck next to me at the red light. It would pay for itself immediately, if it kept me from abusing the truck if I didn't have a chance against him.
Quad, the only time you need to worry is when the other driver is smiling and you can't hear his truck. Back in the 70's, when I had a lead foot & helium brains, my favorite toy was a ratty Chevy ragtop with a 450hp small-block breathing thru full pipes; shamed many a Z28, Mach 1 & 'Cuda.
I've been eying up the digital pyro's some of my buddies have on their sleds. Couple of 'em are running tripples... 3 pyros in one pretty much. One for each bank and one post turbo... I'm thinking it'd be cool as heck to stick one in my truck.
yea that would be sweet, a buddy of mine had that on his sled, three in one pyro never acoured to me to try that, there pretty easy to find from snowmobile shops around here.Diesel rod
