Looking for 73 to 75

Hi guys, I'm new here. I'm in Saskatoon and I'm looking for a 73 to 75 Ford 1/2 ton. I'd like to find one with a decent body, must be Sask plateable. I have a beat up 73 that needs a safety (it would never pass), but it does run pretty good. I was thinking of keeping it for my parts truck. So the truck doesn't need to be complete, just a half decent body and must be Sask plateable.

OOOuuu that could be a hard one to find that early not rusted and plateable here.
You know the body styles go up to 73-79 just different trim from year to year.
My 78 is pretty good but is going to need some repairs to the body.

Good luck and I will keep an eye out for yah.

Yah, I might be dreaming, so I'd settle for plateable. :-)

I want to stay 30 years old for the antique plates. $10.62 a month is sweet!!

Man that is sweet on plates.

You could always put newer truck cabs on. Just that you have to change the vin tag. This would still keep you on the road.
I have a 76 parts truck. The cab has rust and could be fixed. Neighbor sold a 76 truck cab it too was rusted a bit, but the person who got it is fixing it. He has a 2nd truck there, but I think it is worst.
I'm gpoing to see if I can pick up these trucks from him in the spring. His health concerns him and he wants to clean his yard up. He has 79 plus vehicles. Sorry only 2 ford trucks and about a 54 panel (just the back 1/2) No frame or front on it. I'm going to see if I can get this stuff. He has a few other things I would like.
He also has a truck box from the 60's 8ft with bubble fenders. An end gate from a early 50's truck. As I said I'm trying to get them.
If interested in my truck cab just email me. You can do this private buy going to my user name.

Have you thought of re-doing the truck you have? Because buying a truck with a good body doesn't mean it won't need parts to pass safety. But I've heard safety laws aren't very stringent in Sask. Anyway most parts are available, either through the aftermarket, or NOS just waiting for you to get them. Also, if you look on the net there are a lot of boxes, fenders, etc. for sale in the southern US (Arizona area) None are rusty, cuz theres nothin to cause rust there.

Now I don't know about Sask. law, but I'm in MB and here an antique plate means you can only drive it so often. They are more for coverage while the vehicle is parked. So if its a daily driver that might not work. But I assume you have antiques on it already since you know the price. Just somethin to consider.

I thought in sask anything older than '80 doesn't need to be safetied.

I don't know, but that makes me not want to drive through Sask. again. In Man., whenever you buy a vehicle it either has to be safetied or have a valid safety, no matter what age it is.

Cool Inspections are tough

Our Sask inspections are getting tougher and in a lot of cases stupid. Things that have no bearing on the safety of the vehicle. Like license plate lite burn't out. No license plate on front of the car, missing 4th mud flap but have 3 on car. I have 2 friends that work in the insurance and the inspections and they both say 50% of the inspection is not needed. Now the cars have to have 2 inspections. One for the body the other for the mechanical.
As it stands previously registered vehicles in sask do not have to have inspections unless they are a right off from an accident or get flagged at a vehicle safety spot check that get set up around the major citioes here. The other is if they come from out of province.
Age no longer matters. All vehicles have to have inspections by the above criteria. I bought an old signet from Man. It runs and drives, but I have to fix everything on it before I can enjoy driving it. But due to our inspections picking over seat belts with fuzzy lint need to be replaced??? I have to do several things to the car.
We don't have emission inspections here yet, but that probally will come later as the government wants more money.
I find most of the stuff on these inspections just discourage most people from fixing thier old classics and buy new or spend more at the shops. The inspections were drafted by dealerships, bodyshops to help promote their business.
Don't get me wrong I believe inspections are needed keep safe cars on the road, But when a friend got flagged because he had a rust hole the size of dollar coin. He had to get it fixed and pay hundreds on inspections. Yet pop a molding of most new cars annd thay have several holes this size where moldings go on.
I agree that you should see if you can rebuild your truck. I can get most new metal panels for those years of trucks through where I deal for parts.

Older Sask. vehicles do not need to be certified, not sure of the cut off but would think that 30+ years old. Possibly any one old enough for antique plates.

My truck has been red flagged at a check stop. My uncle does inspections at the garage he works for and said my truck isn't worth fixing. He said I'd end up spending thousands on it, and all I really want it for is a beater. I guess I'll just try and find another truck and use this one for parts, or sell it for parts.

Too bad for you. I think you could find other trucks that your truck would be a donor to them. Check the paper. The Star phoenix has a web page and you can brose the classifieds with out buying the paper. Type in Thesp.com
Good luck on your seARCH.
I see your online now. You can tell because the truck site has the dot in green by your name in the forums.

I just had a car inspected. One of the things I got dinged for was the oil was low.Another thing I found out was that if they inspect your vehicle and it needs any front end parts then the inspection station gets to do an alignment before they certify the car.Even if you take the vehicle somewhere else to get an alignment done they have the right to refuse to accept the other shops work and re-align the vehicle and charge you for it.I was at Buck's in Regina today and they had a black mid-70's Ford truck with a 400 that didn't look too bad. They also had another truck that they must be planning on selling whole, a 79 4wd reg cab with a flat deck on the back.
