Question ratle

i made i big mistake, i bought 97 f150 as a write off and rebuilt it, not such abad thing but the mistake was buying it from someone who already started putting back together, which was fine i just tore it all appart again and built it properly.
unknown to me until later on the engine block #'s did not match. it's a 5.4 in 4.6 clothing, yes i did ask around as to wether this was going to make much difference or not no one seemed to have a good answer so i went ahead with the build anyway it worked great for the year then on a road trip one day it just started to rattle (spark knock), that was 2 years ago and i've fighting with it ever since. i did the usual stuf like the mass air flow sensor, no difference, went with colder plugs helped abit and took the octane adjust bar out and that also helped, i noticed that it does not have much power and it pings more when it's hot out but if it's cold out it's pretty good i'm wondering if maybe the egr valve may have something to do with it. it works fine but the
passage in the 4.6
engine is 13mm and the one on the 5.4 is 15mm (keep in mind i got a 5.4 in sheeps clothing). some guys are talking about carbon build up or installing a resistor in the iat wire. the motor only has 25000 miles since the build. so the carbon theory is hard to swallow and the resistor seems like a band-aid solution any suggestions
