I have a 360 with a 4speed granny low trans in my F-100 and I am kinda thinking about my options . The present motor runs good but has 2 bolts broke off holding the exhaust manifold on one side so it sounds like a dirt track car(toomuch noise). I think I will have to pull the head to fix it and if I do I might as well pull both and rering it and have the heads reworked.
my other option is to change motors- the truck was a 302 3 speed before and the first swap to the FE madea real work truck but more because of the trans instead of the 360. The FEs were a great motor but will this trans fit behind a 351w or maybe a 460( I have a lin.460)- any words of advise welcome
the 460, 429, 400, and 351M have the same pattern. 289, 302, 351W, and 351C have the same pattern. 352, 360, 390 have the same bolt pattern. no clue about the others but this is what i know for sure will work together.

the lincoln 460 is drilled for the pilot bushing already. the only expensive part will be the flywheel. (I have been told that a FE flywheel will work, but I do not know that for sure.) the 351m/400 bell housing is pretty common.
a true lincoln 460 will be better balanced from the factory too.
it really shouldn't be too hard to fix that exhaust manifold with the head still on the motor. pull the exhaust manifold off and see if you can get them with a set of vice grips and there are other little tricks too if that don't work.
Like Stangboy said I may get lucky and be able to get my broken studs out but I have a good ideal that they will be flush or recessed to head by gauging with a bolt just stuck in to where it hits. anyone know any good tricks for getting the rest out without them doing the same thing. I srill drive the truck as is now and if I break any more off I may have to let it set and start tearing into it.
