I have one (Lund SS Interceptor #49062) and I am very pleased with the look and construction. Won't chip, fade, or break More pics in library, this is before I installed my Bores Lighted Bumper Guides, I also have the Racer Grill insert from Putco.

Nice looking truck Alaska350V10. I think I saw your truck driving around town, the lighted bumper guides caught my eye. I have the same Lund stainless bug guard which I took off my 2002 F-350 which was all white and looked super sharp with the stainless bug guard and stainless running boards. I haven't mounted it on my new truck yet. I need to buy another and mount it on both trucks at the same time so they look identical.
Like you said, it protects the front edge of the hood from rock chips (our state maintenance spreads pea gravel on the roads for traction in the winter ) and doesn't fade or crack. Well worth the $100 I ending up paying for it locally.
I don't know what brand, but the edges are as sharp as a razor blade. He's cut his hand a couple of times.
I want to get one but am concerned about the same problem.
I haven't had that problem, yes the edge of a thin piece of metal hit at the right angle could do some damage possibly. I would not say the edges are razor sharp. Maybe his had some burrs that needed to be smoothed or was stampedout at 5pm on the Friday before a holiday I have never had a problem with products from Lund for any of my vehicles.
