Hey yall, 1997 4x4offroad 4.6 f150xlt scab
i almost always drive with the windows down, and the ac in the "Floor" position, jus so the truck is breathin, and i jus like the air comin out at the floor vs. vents, when i have the windows down... especialy durin the winter i like all the hot air comin out the floor, well Now when i put it on floor, 80% of the air comes out the defrost vents, the compressor isnt on or anything, its still jus air straight from the out side, comin out the vents. And when i put it on "pannel and floor" or "deforst and floor" it still works right w/ the 50/50 split on where the air goes. But id like to do sumthin bout htis... any ideas?
btw.... AC/Heater everything still works fine, blower is fine, everything w/ the entire ac unit is fine, cept for it doesnt come out on the floor on the floor settin
Found my problem next to the battery. The vacuum line to the cab was looped rather than connected with a 90dg fitting and consequently the hose began deteriorating at the bend. Check your vac system. Good Luck.
zman,
I put a new battery in my 2000 f-150 scab and I may have bumped the vac hose when I performed this operation. The result was the hose is brittle and in my opinion was not engineered properly therefore I had a very slight vac leak that caused the vacuum driven blower vent control to not work and it defaults so to speak to the defrost outlet. As other posts on this site have said the leak can be anywhere, but I would suggest starting at the source under the hood and progress inward. Engine heat makes these inexpensive rubber lines brittle.
Good Luck Stephen
The panel/floor door actuator may have come off its linkage to the door. This was a problem on the earlier models of your generation F150. What you would have to do is remove the actuator which is at the rear of the plenum on the driver side bottom. It has a double vaccum line to it. You will have to remove the lower duct as well to access it. Once removed ( and its a very tight fit to get to the screws) then you just bend the end of the actuator shaft to have a sharper angle on it, reattach it to the door and remount everything. Its kind of a pain, but if you have an hour or two to work on it you should be able to do it yourself with common 1/4 inch drive socket tools in metric.
