im still confused though, the first article states that the 101st airborne division was "deactivated after WWII" but the second article states that the 101st was used in the first gulf war, 1991 ??
They where deactivated after WWII, and reactivated in 1956, and sent to Vietnam in 1965. All this is on the second page of the first article. Pretty amazing group. I also had to check it out after watching Band of Brothers
Today they are no longer an Airborne division. That honor is now the 82nd Airbornes alone. They were made into an Air Assault Division(only one) a while ago. This means that they specialize in coming to and from battle in helicopters instead of parachuting in. Nowadays most of them are not jump qualified since its not a requirement for them anymore but instead go to air assault school. As for Band of Brothers thank God for Stephen Ambrose to bring out the real stories of soldiers in war instead of the fake ones that hollywood likes.
