NO oil pressure

Howdy, Ive got a 2001 SD and last Monday I got the scare of my life. The engine has 80k+ miles, I started it and let it run for a couple minutes to clear the windows then as I drove down the street I looked at the dash and the oil pressure gauge was at 0. I listened for a second and eveything sounded normal so I spun a U to go back home and all the sudden the needle pops up to where it should be. It didn't happen again all that week, then this Monday after sitting for a couple days it did it again. The oi pressure gauge stays at 0 until the engine starts to warm then reads normal. Does this sound like a sending unit or gauge problem? Thanks

Jeff

Symptoms sound like a bad oil pressure sending unit "switch".

Oil level is good, 5.4L, It only seems to do it after sitting for a couple days. It is parked outside and temps have been in the 30s and 40s at night lately.

I would not fool around with this symptom of no oil pres. There have been engines spin bearings on here the last couple months

2) 5.4 and 2)6.8 v-10's

reason= bad oil pumps and overdue oil changes

Get a real oil guage on the truck or take it in and have it chkd out.

Better safe than waiting for something to happen

At the very least, replace the sending unit/switch. You may want to consider an oil and filter change.
