Hello Everyone, This is my first post, so I hope that I am doing it correctly. First, I have a 2000 Expedition with the 5.4L engine and I am having trouble with the headlight switch. It keeps breaking off in my hand. This is the third one counting OEM part. The little piece of plastic breaks after regular usage. I have tried superglue and that didn't work. I was wondering if anyone out there has had the same problem and what they did to fix it. I have considered wiring a toggle switch in, one for running lights and one for headlights, but my Chilton manual's wiring diagram isn't detailed enough. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks for your time, I hope to hear from ya'll soon.
Had the same problem with my 01. **** replaced under warranty. The replacement **** has reinforcements on the backside where it meets the switch post. No problems since replacement (6 months ago). Dealer said they see quite a few of these, which is apparently why Ford redesigned the part.
DMB,
Thanks so much!! If you don't mind could you tell me the name and location of your dealer? Mine doesn't seem to know of the "new" ****. All that I have been getting is the 'same old thing'. Thanks again for your help.

Kayser Ford - Madison, WI. The way you can tell it's new is that on the back of the ****, where the '+' receptacle for the switch post is, the sides of the '+' have angle braces/reinforcements molded into the part. The old ****, which breaks, does not have these. The new **** also looks slightly different. The main part of the **** that you grab is slightly tapered at the top and bottom, and the plastic has a different look to it - matte vs. gloss finish is the best way to describe it. I have noticed that the **** is the same on newer (03/04) rental Tarauses.
I've been gluing mine on the '01 here for 2+ years. Superglue at first, then some JB-Weld believe it or not. Now I'm on the second application of superglue with a wooden toothpick cut to size for reinforcement. Last time I did it, it lasted for several months. It's a pain in the ***, but I'm sure replacing the whole switch myself would be more of a hassle...
