engine swap
helllo,im new here. just got a few questions. i own a 98 ranger 2.5l 5spd manual 2wd. i want to do an engin swap. i know most people would say put the turbo eng in ther . but i dont like turbos that much. i was doing some reaserch and figured that the 04 ford escape or 01+ford svt focus 2.0l dohc zetec are the eng that i found or think would fit. but still theres the question will they bolt up to my existing 5spd manual trans ? i know the focus is fwd . the new rangers come with dohc engs. but those probably hard or impossible to find being brand new. any information would be greatly appeciated. not intrested in turbo 2.3. not worried about $$$. would be happy to here the svt focus eng would fit but probably wont align with rwd tranny. any info would be really healpful. thank you all.

Focus engine won't line up in all likelihood and well, why go smaller to a rev-happy engine in a bigger rig?
If you like an engine that makes you feel like you are taking off from a stop in 3rd gear all the time, go for it.
I like the I4's and all, but the 98-01 Rangers are real good for that Exploder 5.0L swap, if you MUST do a swap.
Oh, for the cost of a swap, you can probably do a real good 2.5L build up and not have to rewire for something like a Zetec...
