Hello to all. This is my first time on this forum. After scanning many of the postings I can say it is much superior to the one I used for my previous truck. I just purchased a 1993 F150 and need a fuel tank selector switch...the one in the dash. Is this a dealer item or is it available from local parts stores? Thanks.
well i had to change the one on the frame rail, what i would do is try to put a test light on the switch on the dash just to make sure you dont need the one under the truck cause like i said i just did it and it was $65 from ford only
The Haynes isn't good for much but the schematics are OK. They would help you figure out how to test the switch and it's about $15. I would write how but I don't remember. I know the pump power AND the gauge signal both go through it. What is the truck doing? It may be a bad pump, a lot more likely.
I have a fuel selector switch out of the dash of a '94 that you can have if you'll pay for shipping. It came out of an instrument cluster bezel I got from a salvage yard. My truck only has one tank, so I didn't use the switch.
If you are interested, email me and let me know and I'll see if there is a way to test the switch before you spend any money on shipping it so we know it works.
Have a 1989 F150, duel tanks, 4.9 litre.
Fuel selector is leaking (at frame rail). Common repair? Or how do you get a replacement. Number on unit is rubbed off.
Does anyone have the part # and a suggestion as to where to get the part? Live outside the US (Caribbean -- impossible here to get parts - and no Ford dealer here). Will have to have phone # or better yet website to order. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Try Russell & Smith Ford in Houston, TX. They have a huge parts supply. Many of the other dealrs here use them as a local parts warehouse. If they do not have what you need I am certain they cn get it for you. You can order online. Try this link. If it does not work, go to Yahoo and type in Russell & Smith Ford.

The fuel selector on the frame rail for a 1988 is F1UZ-9B263-B should be the same for a 1989, cost 75.00$ to 90.00$. Are you sure it is the selector that is leaking and not quick connect fittings? The fittings are around 9.00$ but you need a ford tool to put them into nylon tubes or you could replace the o-rings inside the fittings... a real pain to do since gas is leaking out while you try to get the o-rings out and in. As far as a website try this www.fordpartsonline.com you'll have to type it into IE.
Thanks for the info. Was under the truck today - looks like it is leaking where the cup meets the selector body.
Took the unit off - can figure out the part # by the info you gave us. We can read F1U_9B263 and what looks like AA at the end (instead of B). Looked on the 2 sites provided by you guys - AA does not work, but the B comes up. So that is a huge start.
Got the phone #'s of the 2 Ford sites, will give them a call tomorrow and see if they can help us out.
Being without transportation is getting old.

Thanks again for all of your help. What a great site this is for valuable info and appreciate the quick response.
on my truck the fuel selector has a filter in it . the cup screws on the the valve body there is a rubber o ring in there that could be your problem unscrew it and see if your o ring is broke few bucks to replace the o ring you may want to do the filter in the valve body also good luck

Mine had a different number/letter combo too. I asked the ford parts dealer about it and he said that is a number/letter combo of who made it at that time, so i take as they may have many number/letter combos depending on how many places where making it, all the same to ford though.
I think your o ring is bad. People here have opened there selector valve and put it back together with no problems with leaking. 1987 to 89 have the same selector valve. i replaced mine on my 87 a few months ago, my fuel from the rear tank was going to the front tank. While you have the selector valve off see if there are 1/4" black o rings floating in the bottom (CUP). My part number ends in A also. Some of these were recalled on the 1989.
To M. Stephens: Thanks alot! But I think I have one coming from a Ford dealer in TX. I'm disappointed that I did not wait for your response. I am keeping you on my desk top. Thanks again!
