ok when i put this bronco in 4 wheel drive it seems to go in ok if i am traveling at slow speeds but when i want to turn it off the light goes out but i can tell it is still engaged by the way it is driving. can anyone tell me what to do to fix this?
I assume your talking about the axles not dis-engaging,if you have auto hubs you should stop and back up a tad.If you have manual hubs, sometimes they will stick.
I have an 88 Bronco that has been stuck in 4WD for a while now. Backing up doesn't do it. Any other suggestions. It is also autohubs. Push button on dash.
Are the hubs stuck or is it the t-case? The ford auto hubs are junk and if they aren't disengaging put a set of Warn's in there. Takes about 15 minutes to do.
If the t-case won't disengage, pull off the motor from the t-case and see if it will move without any load on it. If no, verify that you have power to the motor at the connector. Most likely the motor just wore out. I replaced mine at about 150,000 miles.
I have auto hubs on my 92 Bronco. What a pain sometimes. What I do is put it in neutral and press the 4x4 button to disengage. Or put in reverse and go back at least 5 ft. then forward the same length at slow speed that works too. Well at least on my truck it does
Most of our broncoes have the electric shift engage motor, the auto matic hubs do give alot of trouble along with the electric shift motor mounted on the transfer case . This thread is about ford explorers and how to clean and diagnose the electric shift motor and computer located in the passenger (kick panel,)these motor are over 300$$ and up to 450$$ from ford .This site if u read it will explain everything. It says Explorers but our Broncoes are just like this motor and computer. Read all of the information and if your some what handy u can check your own shift motor and computer that controls it TR -----------------http://www.glue.umd.edu/~singletn/web/pages/tcase.html
