I acquired a 1965 Ford F100 with a 1969 Mustang 302CI V8 almost 4 months ago . It also has a HD Cruiseomatic transmission.
I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, plug and coil wires. new voltage regulator and alternator. I have rebuilt the 570CFM Holley carburetor and installed a new mechanical fuel pump.
Here's my problem.
If you floor it from a stand still the motor will bog down and even backfire through the carburetor.
If you let it get to rolling to say maybe 10-15 mph and then floor it the motor will come alive and even screech the tires when it hits second gear.
I can't figure out if it's fuel or ignition related.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this?
backfire thru the carb should indicate a lean mixture. does it do it weather the engine is warm or cold? if you trust your carb rebuild then try to fatten up the accelerator pump for a bigger shot of fuel.
I'd say adjust your air mixture screws while idling at full operating temp. Hook up a vacuum gauge to a free port on the intake somewhere, and adjust it to the highest vacuum attainable, and then slightly turn in each screw to make sure it's not running to lean. You'll likely have to re-set your idle afterwards.
although adjusting the idle mixture screws may help slightly from the transiton of idle to part throttle they are not going to fix the problem. at WOT the idle curcuit is no longer in use.
