voltage problems

any one noe what voltage my alternator should be putting out i checked it the other day and only got a little over 12.60 volts ... is this good

With the vehicle running, it should be around 14+V. So, no. 12.6V is not good (that's about what the voltage of the battery should be when it's fully charged).

cheap voltmeters

Be careful of cheap voltmeters. The calibration may be off. You should see a few volt difference at the battery with the engine off and with the engine at a high idle. The increase will tell you the alternator is putting out charging current.
