Budget bogger, but noooooooo, you guys had to corrupt me, now my 81 f-250 is getting a SAS with a detroit, full float spooled 60 rear, both with 4.10 gears, homemade 6" lift, rear mount rad and electric fans, built 400 with a 435 tranny and 205 t-case. I should've never posted in here , oh well, all for the best as i will be on top in the mud pitts .
Now to the point, there are a few more mods that i am seriously looking into so i can romp on it a little harder without worring about breakage. The first of which are the driveshaft. I'm looking to upgrade to 1410's at the pumpkins and at least a 1350 at the t-case. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't this what the current superduties use?, if not what would it cost to get the yokes and u-joints for this?
Second and third is what would a pair of ctm u-joints and 35spline outers run me for a dana 60 out of a 77 f-250?
Man i thought i wasn't going to spend a lot of money on this thing. . . .
I would run the same size u joint at both ends of the drive shaft that way you can carry only one size spares, and the 1410 joints are cheaper than 1350s anyway. I wouldnt worry about upgrading the shafts either unless you have a lot of horsepower the dana 60 front should hold up to 35s.

1410's cheaper than 1350's, well thats some good news, with the 1410's, would i need to get a larger diameter driveshaft tube? The shafs in the truck were just redone for the 205 swap, and around here its 100 bucks a foot to get drive shafts made (i do have some driveshafts from some old 3-tons trruck that i could use though)
What size tubing are your current shafts? Wall thickness? You dont want the tube to twist before the u joint breaks. It might not be a bad idea to shorten the three ton shafts they probably have heavier tubing and stronger slip joint.
I think the CTM's are around $200 each for the D60. you can get stock GM 35 spline shafts and modify them yourself for about $70 or so per shaft or buy yukons for some more change.
I know that the rear is a stock shaft out of a similar truck and the front is out of a 87 1/2 ton. Them CTM's are a nice chunk or change, more then what i'm paying of the 60's front and rear total.
What needs to be modified on the GM shafts for the to work?
your saying your front 60 is out of a 77. is it a high pinion or standard rotation?
I do beleive your going to have to run flanges on your 205 which run about $100 a peice to go bigger than the 1310 or 1330 joints they were using on the 205 in your year.
The 205 is out of of a 77 1/2 along with the tranny. And i know that it uses the 1310's and because i didn't want to change the driveshaft i went with the offset sized u-joint. And i believe that the 60 is a high pinion, not sure though, might have to run over tomorrow and take a look as the truck is at the neighbors.

Dang man . . . I'm not the only one who got ruined by this stinkin' board. I'm going to have to see if I can make a Calgary trip next summer and drop down to Coutts on my way back. I want to check this bogger out.
If your D60 is out of a 78/79 you'll probably want to replace you inner axle shafts. I wasn't aware of this until recently but they neck down even though they are 35 splines. So if you go to 35 spline outers and CTM's the inners would be your weak link. That is only if you have a 78/79 axle . . . like I do . . . but I wanted to spend more money on parts anyhow so what the heck. I think I'll wait until I snap mine and then put in some Superiors.
If your D60 is out of a 77 1/2 you probably have the same low pinion 19 spline outer turd that I'm cursed with as well. I had to cut and spin my axle to make pinion angle for my truck. but I haven't broken it yet. But with a 30 spline inner and 19 spline outer your shafts will definatly be a weak link. If you upgrade the shafts and get it to work let me know how you did it I would be interested.
Yeah same here this forum is spending my money faster than i can even make it. I've already figured if i have about $50k i should be able to get it where i want it now. but later i'll want more and more and more. Kinda sounds like we're all on drugs here. lol except it's for our trucks. and it's never enough. Bigger tires, more lift, more power, more this better that. Yeah you guys have corrupted me.
How much would it cost to get a D60 Front for my 78 F-250, Cheap? Should i get one from a junk yard and rebuild it?
Just be happy you all have the capacity for all this. Shop, tools, a DRIVEWAY! Place to store..anything lol. I'd love to get into the game...but it'll be a while.
Don't worry saurin we will keep working on your, and before you know it you to will have to have a second job to support your habit, ah yes the next victim to fall prey to the corrupting forces of the dark side.
