I have a 1997 F-350 Powerstroke. I need to install a block heater(the truck is from AZ. and i live in IN.) Where is a good place to get one and where can i read up on how to install it? Thanks for any help given.
thoght that was standard with a diesel. I bought mine in georgia and it came standard. Look for a plug in the grill, usually tucked in the drivers side part of the grill and its very short.
I bet it is really easy to put one in. I had to replace mine just recently, I have a 96. It is (or will be) located just above where the oil filter skrews on. I bet they just put a plug in where it should be. All i had to do to replace mine was drain the coolant, skrew out the old one and skrew in the new one. It cost $80 or so at Napa, and took a half hour. From what I remember when I got the heater they didnt have one listed for my year, so I brought in my old one and it matched the one they had for the 2000.
I bought a Texas truck, so I thought I would have to install one. I read a few threads and here's what I have: crawl under the truck and find the oil filter. There should be a red wire (large, like a household power cord - because it is) that goes out the rear of the oil filter adapter, wraps around towards the front of the truck, then gets lost in the maze of wiring. I had to dig a little under the driver side battery, but eventually found the other end. It was hard to recognize because it had a cap over the prongs, but it was there. Good thing too, because its 29 degrees here in Upstate. Good luck!
