I've seen it done, but steering it was hard because you had a seperate control.
they put a heavy 2.5 ton 4x4 front end from a army truck and used hydro pump/ram setup to steer.
One other problem is that I've heard some states don't allow hydro/ram steering, something about how it's controlled I guess.
I seem to remember something about hydro steering not being allowed in the CA vehicle code a while back when I was looking up info on their website trying to get a desert buggie legalized for street use.
