99.5 psd hard starting?

My 99.5 has had some hard times starting lately. It will crank forever and chugs alot of white or light colored smoke. Let off the key and try it again and it will fire up. Any ideas? It runs fine after it starts and starts great after it is warm. I am thinking glow plugs but I am not sure.

I have a 96, and when my glow plugs were going bad it did the same thing. Don't put fixing them off like I did, you could get stranded somewhere, luckaly i was at home

Just curious, how many miles are you at? Mine went out at 189,000. I have heard romours they go out around 180,000

It has 92,000 on it. I think after I posted this I have read some of the other post and I think I will check the glow plug relay first.
