Hi everyone, Just thought I'd start a military thread here since I know there are a lot of Military folks in Va. (active and etc).
I'm getting stationed in Norfolk after I finish a 2 week school in Oceana. I'll be checking into school 1st week of Dec. I'm pretty sure both Rory and Tomcat are Navy like me...anyone else?
I retired from the Navy as a 1st Class Machinery Repairman in Oct '03 after 20 yrs and 1 month. I currently work for CACI as a Logistics Analyst for the Military Sealift Command.
I'm currently on PCS leave until the 1st week of Dec then I report to Hydraulics school in Oceana for 12 days and then report aboard the USS Kearsarge 16 Dec.
Yes, I was born and raised in the Navy - a LONG time ago. Only served on two ships. One was decommissioned and sold to the Turkish Navy and the other was decomissioned and is scheduled to be sunk as a target. <SIGH>I am so OLD.
No I'm not Navy, well not yet atleast. I'm going in sometime next year. I had quite a few personal issues with my family that I had to resolve plus I'm having to lose weight.

Nah... not old.
I take it the ship that was sold to the Turks was a Perry Class??
PN1 Davis, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). 16 years and looking forward to my next career! (Don't know what it will be yet, but...) Tomcat, if you plan on going navy, what do you want to do? Make sure they give you an 'A' school, or you'll end up scraping paint for a living.olgreymare86, good luck on the Kearsarge. I hear she's getting up there in age. Those flat bottom ships roll pretty good, too. I did two years on the Belleau Wood (LHA 3), and MAN, could she roll!

Well I wanted to go in chipping paint I though it might be fun. No actually I'm aiming for Naval Intellegence.
One thing I've learned: no matter what your job is, sooner or later in your career, you are going to do some painting. Or tiling (like I am now). Or galley work. You get the idea. But it is rewarding when it's all said and done. Now my older son (17 this weekend) is talking about joining.

I'm a TR vet myself. Spent 94-99 onboard, 2 meds, 2 yard periods, 3 sets of workups. I got out as an ET1 a couple years ago. Did 10 years, and am now a contractor.
