Bad UJoint??? 94 Explorer
I haven't seen any good way to change the outer u-joints in vehicle. That u-joint is tucked up inside the i-beam, and I think it would be overly difficult to get your tools on the joint. It's really not too bad getting the outer shaft out.
I understand the hesitation in tackling a job you've never done before. I'm often leery of tackling new jobs, too. Review the procedure in your Haynes manual and maybe a couple of other manuals (the vehicle repair guides at www.autozone.com contain the same information as Chiltons and also has an adequate description of the procedure). If you have any specific steps you don't understand, ask away -- that's what we're here for. If you feel like you understand what's being asked, then take your time, pay attention to what your doing, and I think you'll be fine.
