I have a 1996 ford ranger v-6 3.0. I changed the clutch and the slave cylinder. But I can not get pressure on the clutch. I bled and bled but nothing. I have been without a vechicle for a while so i could use some information fast. Thanks.
I had the same problem on my 93 ranger I am sure that the design is the same they havent changed it much over the years. What I ended up doing was instead of useing the peddle to pump the master cylender I unhooked it from the peddle and pumped it by hand. I had the same problem and I thought that the master cylender was bad so I put a new one on and the same thing then I riged up a presure gage to the old master cylender and I realized that it didnt start building pressure untill it was almost completely depressed. The clutch peddle did not depress it far enough to get the adiquate presure that was needed to bleed the system.
Also I forgot to tell you it is a lot easier on your hand to put a screwdriver through the ring of the master cylender where it atatches to the clutch peddle while bleeding it this way.
Just had this problem on a 94 4.o. Ended up after R&R of 2 mastercyls to pop the snap ring out of the master and just let the air out. Also let some fluid out, push back in, pump by hand a couple of times and redo the process again. replace the snap ring then bleed per the manual (I didn't) and it should be fine.
Spoke with a guy at the transmission shop and he told me that the rangers and broncos due to their downward angled masters are a bitch to get to bleed.
Do this at your own peril as I do not know what your mech ability is just pull the piston out maybe a 1/4 inch to hear the air bleed out.
If you still have your old master pull it apart 1st to see what everything looks like before messing with the new one.
HANKK!!!!!!!!
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!!!! BEEN STRUGGLING WITH BLEEDING THIS 94 RANGER FOR WEEKS!!! PRESSURE BLED IT STILL NOTHING!!!! TOOK YOUR SUGGESTION AND PULLED THE PISTON OUT OF THE MASTER CYL. TILL A LITTLE FLUID CAME OUT AND THEN POPPED IT BACK IN. INSTANT CLUTCH!!!!! I COULD JUST KISS YOU!!!! BACK YARD GIRL MECHANIC FOREVER GRATEFUL!!!!
AWWW ya gonna make me blush and blubber, besides if the other 1/2 saw your post Id ben in deep trouble (grin), and then id hate to hear what your other 1/2 would have ta say ifn we could get it accomplished!;-)
