When i put my truck into park it shows that it is in reverse.is this a serious problem?

No, what year, and engine is it? It's probably just a matter of adjusting the string that controls the indicator.

its a '99. the engine....5.4,v8? i'm not sure if that's what you mean.

Is it just when it's in park? Or does it always show being off one gear?

its always off 1 gear.
