What octane rating?

I've used 93 octane in my 99 ZX2 escort and could almost swear that is runs faster/smoother. In the owners manual it says the ZX2 has 9.6:1 compession is that worth the 93 octane in order to gain performance/and or a smoother running motor?>?/
Thanks
Dustin

Your car was designed to run on regular (87) I would try tuning the car up ( plugs air filter, fuel filter) and disconnecting the battery to clear the truoble codes . You are supposed to disconnect the battery when you work under the hood anyway.

She is really well tuned, and their are no codes as of right now.I just wanted to hear some opinions on wheather 93 was better for my because of the 9.6:1 compressionWill my car "make use" of the 93?

I dont think your car will use the extra octane due to the pre-programed parimeters, IE the igniton advance curve is set up to run on 87 octane .

High octane fuel isn't supposed to boost performance. It's for engines with high compression ratios. The higher the octane rating, the more percent octane in the fuel, which means the more it can be compressed before it ignites on its own.

Use whatever the manual says. If you don't experience problems with whatever the manual says, then all upping the octane will do is empty your wallet faster.

I've seen benefits with higher octane on higher compression motors. Other than the seat of the pants test, take it to the track and try both. your trap speed/mph speed will tell all.
