My name is Zac and I am new to the FTE web-site. Awesome site.
I recently purchased a 1978 F250 Ranger 4x4 for a bargin. It has a 429 from a 1972 Mercury Marquis in it with a 3 speed automatic. Onto the question.
I looked at the front axle and it (suprise) doesn't have any codes on it. So I am stuck trying to figure out what it has. The hubs are approximately 4" in diameter and the diff is approximately 11" in diameter with 10 bolts holding the gear plate in place.
The truck also has a plug in it behind the front bumper. I don't know if it was a diesel at one time or not. I don't think so, but who knows.
Thanks for any help
This may sound like a stupid question but did you look for the plate that is bolted into the front diff. It would be attached with to of those ten bolts holding the gear plate in place. Sometimes they are hidden under dirt, oil and grime. I hate to ask but ya never know. I hope it wasn't an insulting question. Anyway, on that little plate would be some info regarding the gearing etc.
