I bought this 1999 f250 used a couple weeks ago. Ithas the factory windshield in it.
When I was test driving it I noticed something on the windshield. I thought it was (armor all?) over spray from the detail the truck just got. It covers a good amount of the driver view. Looks like a few hundred very small droplets of clear liquid.
I never did anything about it for a few days then I washed the whole truck inside and out, these things were still on the windshield. I can't feel the spots ins side or out. I just relized today that they are in side the two layers of glass. I called Ford and they said, of course, it's my problem now.
Sounds tome like you are about to have an unknown person throw a rock through your windshield. That will allow a vandalism clain to be filed with the insurance. That will fall under your comprehensive and replace your glass at no cost or policy increase.
Now don't get me wrong! I would never suggest any illegal activity...
Just drive a few miles behind a line of dump trucks and you'll put a crack in that windshield before long...
I don't have the dots you speak of, but on my windshield there is a low spot right in the middle of the driver's side that the wiper won't clean. It passes it right over, even with fresh blades and clean glass. Annoying as all get out.
Ive seen windshields de-laminate or get air bubbles in the lamination. How it forms in there, I couldnt tell you. If you will use insurance, call a auto glass shop and tell them its cracked, the shop wont care if its really broken or not. If you have to pay for it, we are selling those windshields for well under 200 bucks so its not a big deal. Obviously youre not in your 3 year warranty so Ford doesnt care, but most of the bigger auto glass shops will warranty it for defects as long as you own that windshield.
Dont forget to insist on Carlite glass, and take it to the shop where two people can install it.
Thanks guys, I never thought about the gravel truck thing. This really happened to me a few years ago in my old car. It was a "no questions asked" deal, they just sent a mobile glass guy out to my house and they fixed it. Hmmmmmm...
Carlite is the best quality you can get for these trucks, quality made, fit, molding. Pilkington (LOF) is second. I wouldnt put a ppg in my truck, they commonly have bad curves, distortions, and junk moldings. The Canadian PPG plant has okay quality but unfortunately the American plant has poor quality.
The Carlite glass is a Ford Motor Product, and is made using the Pilkington process where the glass is floated on a bed of molden tin so it comes out smooth and consistent. (My father was responsible for Ford getting the Pilkington License many years ago when he was the senior glass technologist at Ford in Dearborn.) Useless information bit 987654321!
