Simple, stupid, dash gauge question
Just bought '05 F250 Super Duty extended cab XLT 4X4 with sport package. I've been through the owner's manual twice. I've done a 'search' on this board. The answer is right in front of me -- somewhere -- but I'm overlooking it, so will just ask for help:
Does this truck have a TRIP ODOMETER ? In all other vehicles I've relied on the trip odometer rather than gas gauge for a more accurate reading of fuel level, and for the life of me I can't find one on this dash. Not a big deal, but certainly of much more value to me than a read out of 'engine hours'.
Thanks for any assistance -- and man is this a great truck!

I didn't try hard enough. Actually, I DID try that ****, figuring it must be the trip odometer ****. However, when I pushed it it cycled between an engine hours number and some other number, with a strange symbol on the far left. I never saw a figure that mimicked the odometer (with all the leading zeroes).
Now that I try it again -- with the same result -- I realize that the strange symbol was actually a sort of stylized "T", and that the number following it was 1.4 lower than the total odometer mileage. (86.8 vs 000088).
Finally it dawned on me, thanks to your reply, that if I pushed the button and HELD IT IN for several seconds, it would reset, and it did.
In my previous car -- souped up '01 BMW M roadster with 400hp -- the gas tank only held 12.5 gallons, the car only got about 12-13 mpg in town, and the gas gauge was TOTALLY non-linear. It was important to use the trip odometer to know how much gas was left!!!
This truck may get about the same mileage, but the tank is more than twice as large. No clue yet about the gas gauge reliability, but I imagine I'll still be watching the trip odometer, as soon as I get a feel for the range of a tank of gas.
Thanks again for helping me through this little 'problem'.

I'm going to enjoy this a lot...and you'll love your new truck...I guarantee it!
