went to do brake job on my 81 f-250......everything went smoothly until.......arghhhh....bleeder valve snapped off flush with calliper.....any advice.....and yes it is a little crusty ....(imagine a 4x4 that actually gets used)
Drill it out.Could try a little heat and an easy-out,I personally don't like easy-outs though because they're even harder to drill if they break.Could replace caliper is next option.Did you open system to get air in?If not just let it ride for now.
Had the same thing happen on my 81 f100 last year, I replaced the caliper, had a fear of getting metal chips in the system by drilling.
After I replace the caliper I made a cap to cover the bleeder and I'm glad I did because this year I had to do some brake bleeding and it came loose with no hassle.
In the future, you might consider keeping a can of PB Blaster handy for frozen nuts and bolts. It's an excellent penetrant. Whenever I need to mess with difficult fasteners I'll nail them the day before with PB Blaster and it helps a lot. Especially things like suspension or exhaust fasteners that are subjected to lots of corrosion and don't get removed very often.
Rather then go through the time and expense, just bleed the brakes by cracking the line at the caliper. It's a lot cheaper to do it that way if they are not leaking. I just did it on my F-250 and it worked out well.
Been my experience that if its rusted in enough to break off bleeder then the easy out will break too- save your easy out and time and just get a new caliper/cylinder- they arent expensive. If you ever have a line freeze up inside the fitting, I have had good luck with keeping it soaked with penetrating oil and just keep working the fitting back and forth a little- sometimes it takes a while, but it works for me about 90% of the time.
