I just bought a 1985 F250 with a c-6 and a gear vendors. But it don't work, the light comes on and I have bypassed the ecm to it with a switch to the solenoid but nothing. I understand they work of oil pressure so I pulled the drain plug under the solenoid and drain out just about nothing mybe a 1/2 cup of oil. Now where is the fill hole and how much do I put in it? I found a fill plug but it's on the adapter not the vendor it self anyone?
I do believe there is a fill plug on the unit itself and it will hold about a quart of atf. Use the ford stuff as I think they will mix a bit. There is one switch to turn the unit on and off and another switch to set it to manual or automatic shift. I used a dimmer switch for on and off. Even in the manual mode, it wouldnt shift till about 25 mph and all that is controlled in the sensors and controller. I dont have the truck nor the book for the system. I would imagine they will help you out if you give them a call. They were located in El Cajon, Calif when I was dealing with them. Try internet search for gearvendors.com.
The filler plug on my unit is on the drivers side and about halfway up. The shift problem could be a faulty speed sensor. It's on the speedo cable and has 2 wires comming off. The unit does work off hydraulic pressure generated by rpm's and the sensor is to make sure there the unit will not shift until there is enough pressure to make a good snappy shift. Replacement sensor is about $35.
Also make sure you have good grounds and any electrical connectors are not corroded. The wires comming from the sensor may have connectors so check those.
When my speed sensor went out it first would come out of O/D and then jump back in (not good when you're on the freeway at 75mph) did that a couple of times, then it would not shift at all.

I am sure that the contact us link will get you a reply from the tech support people to help you with drawings and directions as well as trouble shooting and parts if required.
they have been having trouble with their email. I finally gave them a call on the unit I have acquired, and were more than happy to send the literature out to me.
I called them last week and talked to a tech. I performed all the tests he told me to and nothing worked. I just thought if someone would know on here and I could get the right amount of oil in it might then shift. I can wait till monday and call back.
I highly suggest you get the manual from them. I just got mine in the mail (no charge at all) and it has full flow charts, wiring diagrams and everything you would need to diagnose your unit. They do run on oil pressure, but there is electonic control as well. If you want I can scan it off and email to you.
