just bought a 92 f-250 4x4 with the 7.3,i just noticed that one hub is and auto lock and the other is manual,im not sure which is stock...so now i have to buy new hubs...can somebody tell me good replacement parts or tell me weather the auto or manual is stock?what do i have to do to change them...what do you suggest to do.....?
put some locking units on it from 89 and newer, the older ones give ya lots of trouble locking and unlocking, full time ones just wear out your front end.
My dad used to have a 96 f350 that came with automatic hubs from factory. I cant imagine someone replacing a hub with an automatic hub. He used to plow snow and the automatic hubs both went out and he got stuck with 2wd. They are junk.
He replaced them with WARN manual locking hubs and thats what I have on my 89. He got them through the local Ford dealer.
I have never had to replace hubs but I know my dad did it himself. I dont think it takes a serious mechanic to do it.
I would imagine it would be all the same for your 92. Im not sure when they first introduced auto hubs. They are junk, and dont replace them with auto hubs. Get some good failproof WARNs.
i'd put stock newer ford ones, unless your gonna get some serious four wheelin with big tires.you'll save money, just go to a wrecking yard,I bought both sides complete for $60.
Warnes are the best, there easy to change on the fords,i had worns on my jeep with 36" tires and a 300 hp small block, never any trouble with the hubs but i broke every thing else.
You can get a cheap set of Warn hubs for about 60 dollars. Yea they are not the best of the line, but when you break something do you want it to be a 400 dollar axle or a 60 dollar set of hubs?
If you have the Dana 50 TTB axle they may be a little more.
Mine has the Dana 44 TTB for a few more days.
When I had my ranch in Arizona I ran my hubs in all the time, highway or ranch. Did not seem to effect anything and my mileage on my old 85 6.9 stayed at 16. Was I flirting with trouble leaving them engaged?

Go manuals for sure, I replaced one automatic once and it cost me in the 400 dollars, I did not know you could install manuals one and the as ho.. at ford never advised me I could change boths for 1/4 of the price, some nice .... guy.
