I have a 97 Ford Ranger XLT super cab and my problem is when I turn the dash switch to the cool position to allow outside air in, it still gives me heat. The air conditioning works fine, it is just the heat will not turn off. Does anybody have any suggestions what it might be. Is it the switch or the heat control valve. I will appreciate any suggestions on how to fix the problem.
I just bought a 97 Rnager Extended. It also has the same problem. Did you find a fix to it yet? Mine doesn't get any cold when I turn it to AC, but I get cold when I turn it to MAX AC. I only get heat when on any other setting besides MAX AC. The temp doesn't change when I turn the cold/hot dial.
I took mine to the ford dealer and got a diagnostic test on it and it showed that the heater blend door was broke. But the thing is that you have to buy the whole assembly, which is called the heater plenum. Now ford will give you a book quote of about 10 hours to fix it and will run about $600 - 700. They quoted me like $620. I ended asking my brother if he would do it and I ##### you not we completed the job in 3 hours. We ended up taking almost the whole dash out. If you can pull the dash away from the firewall about 10 inches you can slide the part up there with out screwing it up and without having to take the dash total out of the truck. Oh the part runs about 250.00 if that is what is wrong with yours.
My ford dealer told me he could buy the part between the electric motor and the door flap. A $7 piece. From your experience would this be an easier change? Do you remember what this little piece looked like?
